Barchester Healthcare, a UK major care provider, wanted an energy efficient solution to provide heating and hot water for its 61-bedroom Moreton Hill Care Centre in Gloucestershire. Barchester’s property team was keen to investigate renewable technologies available on the market today to reduce care home’s energy costs as well as carbon emissions.

They required a system that was both robust enough to cope with the many demands placed upon it, and extremely reliable in order to ensure the continued high standards of care at the centre.

The solution turned out to be simple! Specialist commercial heat pump installers, Renewable Heat Services, recommended replacing the existing inefficient oil boilers with two Kingspan Environmental Aeromax Plus 105kW Air Source Heat Pumps. These were connected seamlessly to the existing heating system ensuring no interruption to service.

With a coefficient of performance (COP) of over 4, the Aeromax Plus heat pumps were designed for commercial applications such as the heating of care homes as well as offices, hospitals, apartments or hotels and can provide continuous hot water production at 65°C for space heating and taps. The low noise level and very compact chassis reduce the noise disturbance from the unit and minimise the space required for installation.

Effective all year round, even at temperatures down to -20°C, the Aeromax Plus heat pumps have met all the care home’s requirements for heating and hot water and are on course to halve its annual carbon emissions.
