A variety of products from Johnstone’s Trade’s Ecological Solutions range have played their part in ensuring a new state-of-the-art campus building for Kirklees College has received a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.
The new £74 million Huddersfield Centre building at Kirklees College has been designed to provide an inspirational learning environment for thousands of students.
Doncaster-based Magill Painting and Decorating Contractors were tasked with undertaking the intensive 12-month decoration programme by main contractor Allenbuild and turned to the high performance attributes of Johnstone’s Ecological Solutions products.
The team decorated the vast majority of the building’s interior with Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt and Covaplus Vinyl Matt; two core products from the range. The Ecological Solutions portfolio boasts a further 12 products that all carry the coveted EU Ecolabel accreditation, meaning their environmental credentials have been independently tested and verified by a respected third party.
In addition, Johnstone’s Satin Finish was used for the interior wood and metalwork, while Johnstone’s Professional Undercoat and Gloss were used to protect the exterior steelwork.
Peter McNally, of Magill Painting and Decorating Contractors, said: “We use Johnstone’s Trade products on many of our projects as we find the products easy to work with and they provide excellent quality and even coverage.
"We’ve got a good working relationship with the Johnstone’s team too and know we can rely on them for support, which is vital when working on large-scale projects like this.”
Ian Richardson, head of facilities at Kirklees College, added: “The project ran smoothly thanks to the support provided by Johnstone’s; firstly, with the initial specification process and then the fact that the team was on hand to assist with any potential issues on site.
"The new building looks fantastic and knowing that the paintwork will stand the test of time is an added bonus.”
