The only way is Essex for Hurst and Wirral Glazing

When Wirral Glazing won a prestigious contract to supply windows and doors to a new social housing development in Manchester, they made Hurst Plastics their first port of call for the composite doors.

The Essex Way development in Trafford Park in Manchester combines a mix of 29 two storey houses and two blocks of flats, which provide an additional 33 dwellings.

Whilst cost was an obvious factor in choosing construction materials, it was important to the partnering contractor Cruden Construction Limited that the scheme was visually attractive and consistent too.

Steve Mahoney, director at Wirral Glazing, says: “The specification for the doors was more complicated because the developer wanted a bespoke solution to ensure that the design was contemporary and interesting. The doors however also had to provide the highest levels of performance and security for residents. Having worked with Hurst for many years, we were confident that they had the credentials to fulfil the demands of the project with a high quality and cost effective solution.”

The final door specification comprised of Hurst’s solid panel composite doors to the rear of the 29 houses and tailor-made glazed composite doors, which featured four small glazed panels, to the front.  The 22 first floor apartments are fitted with Hurst’s composite fire doors. These are indistinguishable from the standard Hurst composite doors, which are fitted to the 11 ground floor apartments. For consistency all the doors were supplied in a special blue RAL colour to match each other and complement the grey windows used throughout the Trafford Housing Trust development.

Nick Harrison, commercial sales manager at Hurst, added: “This was a superb project and one that demonstrates that you don’t have to choose between design and performance, even on a social housing scheme. We were delighted to work closely with Wirral Glazing and to satisfy a complex specification that drew on our ability to design and craft a customised door that not only looks good but that’s guaranteed to perform too.”

Using the latest in fibreglass door technology, the Hurst Composite door offers proven levels of high security. It is fitted with the very latest Yale multipoint locking system, endorsed by the Master Locksmiths Association. Meeting the requirements of Secured by Design, it has been independently tested and achieved full accreditation for the PAS 23/24 standard for both extreme weather conditions and severe physical attack.  The Hurst composite door also comes with a comprehensive 10 year warranty.
