Working with architect, Arup Associates and contractor, Vinci Construction UK, Style was specified to sub-divide the new lecture theatre at Coventry University using the technologically advanced, automatic Skyfold vertical-folding partition. This innovative and unique acoustic partitioning wall system offers a high acoustic rating, delivering exceptional privacy to users on either side. In addition, floor space is maximised as the entire unit folds neatly into the ceiling cavity when not in use. “We have been extremely impressed with the Skyfold partition,” confirms Douglas Fewkes, Project Manager in the Estates Department at the University. “The lecture hall can be quickly divided at the press of a button giving us a really flexible working space.”
Coventry University is a forward-looking, modern university with a proud tradition as a provider of high quality education and a focus on applied research. Students benefit from a campus that delivers state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in all academic disciplines including health, design and engineering laboratories, performing arts studios and computing centres.
A showcase feature of the University is the round lecture theatre in the new engineering and computing building. Arranged with contemporary seating in a steep circle around the central lecture stands, the space can be divided into two discrete areas by lowering the automatic vertical-folding Skyfold partition. Only available in the UK from partitioning experts Style, Skyfold is a phenomenal solution for dividing an area combining fast room reconfiguration with impressive acoustic performance of up to Rw56dB.
“We’re seeing a real acceleration in the number of Skyfold specifications,” said Mike Fine, Style’s director for the Midlands, “and it’s of no surprise when you see this incredible moveable wall in action.
