FDS Consult, one of the UK’s leading experts in fire engineering, has been appointed to provide a comprehensive fire strategy for a unique London residential project.

Based in Bow, the Grade II listed St Clement’s Hospital will be converted into more than 250 houses and apartments.

Brought on board due to their previous work with the site’s developers, Linden Homes, FDS Consult will be responsible for creating a fire strategy document for the development, which presents the added complexity of working with the building’s existing structure due to its listed status.

Once complete the development will consist of 16 houses and 236 apartments, alongside community accommodation, commercial spaces, a café/restaurant and residential car parking areas.

Adrian Bohr, managing director at Linden Homes Eastern, said: “The St Clement’s Hospital project will provide much-needed additional housing for the area, and by bringing FDS Consult on board we can ensure that these homes will meet all relevant fire safety standards.”

Michel Wizenberg Managing Director of FDS Consult, added: “It’s an honour to be appointed to a unique development of this scale. As the property is listed there are a number of challenges to overcome, but our many years of experience will allow us to create an appropriate, code compliant fire strategy.”

The project is estimated to be completed in July 2016.
