The excellent flexibility of the Sika Sarnafil single ply system coupled with its ability to withstand cold temperatures has resulted in its specification for the balconies, roofs and terraces of a brand new residential development in Newbury, Reading.
Parkway, a £100 million urban quarter in the historic town centre, boasts an impressive 300,000sq ft footprint. Comprising an extensive retail and leisure space, there are also 180 apartments and penthouses across five floors and a seven-storey residential tower.
The projects main contractor was Costain, while Prater the UK’s leading specialist contractor, was appointed to install the complete building envelope for this complex and difficult project. The company was chosen for its experience and expertise in delivering and managing large-scale projects of its kind.
Kate Prater, Associate Director for Prater explains: “We needed to provide a modern waterproofing system with an appearance which was sympathetic to the historic surroundings. Staggered installations resulted in the original specified system being impractical during the winter months. We changed this to the Sika Sarnafil system to remove the need for hot works, enabling the project to run on schedule.”
Prater installed 500sq m of Sika Sarnafil membrane G410-12ELF in Lead Grey and G410-15EL Light across the balconies, roofs and terraces of all residential units. Prater also completed the louvre systems and vertical cladding across the project, providing a complete envelope solution to protect all buildings from the elements.
Kate [as above] continued: “The high quality and flexibility of the Sika Sarnafil single ply system lent itself perfectly to the requirements of this project. It also suited the time restrictions and intricate detailing requirements of the residential units. Sika completed all work to the highest standard and we are proud to have specified a system that not only works with the overall aesthetic of the development but also provides a high performance solution.”
In addition, Prater supplied 24,000sq m of structural waterproofing, 3,000m of metal standing seam roofing, 1500m of composite cladding, rain screen cladding, water pipes and paving.
