Smart to showcase sustainable systems at Ecobuild

Exhibition & Webinar Tue, Mar 22, 2016 5:09 PM

Commercial systems specialist Smart Architectural Aluminium is to showcase a number of new products at this year’s Ecobuild exhibition, as well as presenting its sustainability credentials.

The company will use the exhibition to unveil its drive to become a carbon neutral business including plans to be energy self-sufficient.  Previewing the company’s plans, Managing Director Eddie Robinson said: “Over recent years, we have implemented a range of environmental policies and procedures including an ISO14001 Environmental Management System and the introduction of strict recycling protocols.

“As part of our future expansion programme, we plan to develop our manufacturing site in the UK – which will see capacity increase by more than 50% and the workforce almost double. This will also see the installation of two wind turbines on site, allowing us to generate one hundred percent of our power locally.

"We will be the only UK-based manufacturer with the capability of extruding, finishing and distributing aluminium profiles from a single site and in total, these developments will help reduce our carbon footprint by around 750,000 tonnes each year. That’s roughly the equivalent amount that an average car would produce driving round the equator – 90,000 times.”

As well as highlighting these new development plans, Smart will also be showcasing a number of new systems.  At the heart of the company’s stand will be a 4 metre by 6 metre run of MC600 Smart Wall curtain walling, complete with a new Smart Wall commercial door which is being launched at the show. The new rebated swing door delivers excellent U-values and weather protection and with an anti-finger trap, is ideal for schools, hospitals, libraries and other public buildings.  The UK’s first thermally-broken door to be tested to LPS 1175 (level 2) and EN1627 (level 3), the Smart Wall Commercial Door is available with either a low or rebated threshold and may be retro-fitted if required.

Another new door to be launched at the show is an extension to the proven Evolution range, a suite of products developed for refurbishment projects where traditional steel doors and windows need to be replaced. With like-for-like sight lines, the system is perfect for commercial renovation projects - replacing tired steel windows and doors with a modern, thermally broken, aluminium equivalent.

The Visoglide Plus sliding door completes the company’s new door display. With slim sight lines and exceptional thermal performance, the product is available up to an impressive 2.4 metres by 5.2 metres; with the option of auto-slide gearing, it is designed for high end commercial applications such as retail outlets and showrooms.

Amongst the company’s new window systems on display will be the Alitherm 700 and Eco Futural ranges, with both displays featuring auto-gearing solutions, which make the products ideal when used as part of buildings’ integrated natural ventilation and climate control systems.  Also on the stand will be the Slide 2000 horizontal sliding window, developed specifically for high volume, light commercial applications such as schools and hospitals and particularly applications where an open sash is required to provide increased ventilation.

Eddie Robinson continued: “We believe our stand for this year’s show captures the essence of Ecobuild and are looking forward to showcasing our new products and outlining our business sustainability plans to the show’s visitors.”
