Clugston Construction, part of the privately owned £160 million turnover Clugston Group, has secured three major contract wins worth £13 million for the University of Sunderland and Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group.
The University of Sunderland projects are being delivered as part of a 36 month Major Capital Contractor Framework, won exclusively by Clugston earlier in the year. With the first project, involving the refurbishment of the Sciences Complex underway, the go ahead has just been given for a second contract, to develop a Centre for Enterprise and Innovation.
The £3.8m Sciences Complex will provide new state-of-the-art laboratories, research facilities, a hospital training ward, point of care centre, a high-fidelity simulation suite, examination rooms, a pharmacy, teaching hubs, training rooms, seminar rooms and staff offices.
The £7m Centre for Enterprise and Innovation, which will be part refurbishment of a Grade II listed building and part new build, will provide modern laboratory, workshop and office space for new and existing businesses particularly in the sectors of advanced manufacturing, health, sciences and the creative industries.
The Centre will also accommodate the University’s Enterprise Place, a business incubator for graduate and student businesses in addition a large conferencing suite and plaza cafe. Once completed the centre will become the catalyst for building an entrepreneurial culture amongst university staff and students.
Clugston has also secured a £2.2 million contract to redevelop the office and manufacturing facilities of Marshall Advanced Composites at Kirkbymoorside.
Commenting on the contract wins, Andy Mackintosh, Clugston Construction’s newly appointed regional business manager for the North East, said, “We are really pleased to be working on three projects from the North East office. As a local business, employing local people, we are excited to be working for such well-known organisations and keen to add value to the process.”
