OSB now the dominant board product for roofs

Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is gaining rapidly in popularity in the building industry, thanks to its strength, durability, low cost and sustainability.

A recent study by Circle Research for Norbord has found that 44% of builders and specifiers regularly choose OSB for roof decking and roof sheathing – applications previously dominated by traditional plywood.

At up to 45.2% cheaper than softwood ply, Norbord’s SterlingOSB is increasingly seen as the smart choice for such applications, where strength and durability are important.

According to the research, plywood today is mostly used in the building trade for boxing-in (48%) and for flooring (44%).

Significantly, though, respondents acknowledged that OSB is just as capable at plywood for these applications.

Norbord’s SterlingOSB is made in Scotland from home-grown timber and is one of the most sustainable wood-based products available.
