Commercial Ecodan triumphs in national awards Mitsubishi Electric’s commercial Ecodan® CAHV monobloc air source heat pump has received national recognition with the Heat Pump Product Innovation of the Year accolade at the National Heat Pumps Awards in Birmingham.

The commercial Ecodan® CAHV-P500YA-HPB water and space heating system was judged to be the clear winner for its ability to deliver renewable heat to commercial buildings whilst providing high levels of efficiency, cutting running costs and CO2emissions.

“The judges liked the fact that it is completely scalable and can work on its own or with existing systems, making it ideal for both new-build and retrofit,” explained Mitsubishi Electric’s James Timbs-Harrison, who collected the award on behalf of the company.

“They called it a commercial heat pump with an innovative, high efficiency design that marks a further step for heat pump technology into commercial boiler rooms,” he added.

The MCS Approved (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) air to water heat pump uses advanced air source heat pump technology to provide a building’s heating and hot water. Incorporating proven technology to offer reliable heating with design flexibility, the system comes in units of 43kW (@-3°C) to offer space heating and sanitary hot water up to 70°C. It is also available with multiple unit control to provide 688kW of renewable heating.

In what turned out to be an exceptional night for Mitsubishi Electric, the company won three categories outright and received a Highly Commended Award in two others.

Mitsubishi Electric also received acclaim for its Ecodan FTC-3 Controller in the Ancillary Product of the Year category with the Judges remarking: “Smart controllers such as this product are critical to the success of the heat pump market.”

Two live projects using Ecodan air source heat pumps also received Awards with the Public Sector Project of the Year category going to the installation in the Toryglen Estate project in Glasgow. Both the Installer (UKFM Renewables) and the Consultant (Cool Planet) received a certificate as well. The judges felt that this was: “A first class, energy efficient solution for particularly challenging locations in blocks of flats across Glasgow.”

Also in the Public Sector Project of the Year Award, the installation of Ecodan in the Lonnen Heat Pump Scheme (with South Tyneside Homes and Rothwell Plumbing Services) received praise with the judges commenting that it was: “A master class in project organisation and customer integration.”

Mitsubishi Electric’s pioneering Learning Curve educational programme secured the prestigious Training Excellence of the Year Award. The judges felt that the programme was an inspirational, exciting and totally new way to stimulate interest in renewable technology in the industry’s future workforce.

“This was an exceptional night when the heat pump industry recognises the very best renewable technologies and we are delighted with the accolades from our peers,” commented John Kellett, General Manager of the company’s Heating Systems Division.
