Daikin UK picked up this year’s Product Innovation of the Year on behalf of Daikin Europe, at the National Heat Pump awards held at Birmingham’s ICC.

The ceremony, now in its third year, is hosted by the Heat Pump Association.

Daikin’s ground-breaking system, the Altherma hybrid heat pump beat off competition from a wide range of heat pump manufacturers, to win Product Innovation of the Year.

The National Heat Pump awards provide an opportunity for the growing renewable energy industry to showcase the best heat pump products, projects and people, servicing both commercial and domestic markets in the UK.

The judges’ comments read: “Daikin’s Altherma Hybrid heat system combines their split air source heat pump with a condensing combi gas boiler to provide homeowners who are on the gas grid with a highly efficient system which can provide [up to] 70% of their space heating requirements using either heat pump alone or in combination with the combi gas boiler in hybrid mode.

“The Daikin Altherma hybrid heat pump seamlessly integrates the heat pump with the combi gas boiler in contrast with other hybrid or bivalent systems to help homeowners significantly reduce their energy bills without reducing comfort levels.”

Dave Lacey, Commercial Director, Heating and Renewables, of Daikin UK, said: “We are delighted that the Hybrid heat pump has been recognised as a genuinely ground breaking renewable heating solution for on-gas homes. Hybrid heat pumps are an especially attractive option for combi boiler replacement, particularly as they are eligible for dRHI payments.

“We are investing in training, accreditation and support for installers across the UK, who recognise the fantastic business opportunity the Altherma hybrid offers to target a much wider market of on-gas households looking to improve their energy efficiency and significantly reduce their fuel bills.
