Over £1million of British Gypsum products have been specified for a new luxury £40m retirement village in Worcestershire, due to be completed by October 2019.
British Gypsum’s Glasroc X Sheathing Board has played a major role in the build and is the first external sheathing board available on the market to offer third party certified weather protection for 6 months – having successfully met all of the requirements set out by the BBA.
Wood Norton Retirement development, operated by Richmond Villages and part of BUPA, will be a new retirement living facility located between Evesham and Pershore, offering a choice of exemplary retirement accommodation and facilities.
The village consists of 61 Independent living units, 48 assisted living units and 60 care bed units, an on-site restaurant, spa and pool. When specifying the materials for the build, sub-contractors CG Reynolds worked closely with British Gypsum to specify Glasroc X Sheathing Board, as well as products for the internal dry lining and ceilings.
Kieran Boxwell, Operations Director at CG Reynolds said: “We have worked with British Gypsum on previous projects so we know how high-quality the products and customer service are. Wood Norton is one of the first projects in the country to use the Glasroc X Sheathing Board and we are really pleased with the product.
"It has been easy to handle on-site as it’s so lightweight and easy to cut. However what really gave me confidence in using the product was the 6 months BBA certificate for temporary weather protection.”
Glasroc X sheathing boards are for use on the external face of steel frame system (SFS) external walls providing temporary weather protection prior to over-cladding with a permanent weather-proof façade. Indeed, the BBA certification confirms that the product will withstand all typical UK weather conditions and will continue to protect a building, even if a project is delayed, when used in conjunction with Glasroc X sealant and Glasroc X screws.
Kieran continued: “Glasroc X simplifies the supply chain and has helped to reduce the number of suppliers we have had to liaise with before and during the project. Having one point of contact for technical support and product offering has been excellent.
“We like to get in and get the job done as quickly as possible and this product helps us to do so, as it’s so easy and quick to install. As well as this, our installers really like to work with the product, so everyone’s happy.”
A whole host of British Gypsum’s walls, ceilings and partition solutions are also being used on the project, including GypWall CLASSIC, a lightweight non-loadbearing drywall partition system, providing cost-effective, multi-purpose solutions suitable for all types of buildings.
Alongside this, walls and acoustic ceiling systems are being installed to create an environment that will be perfect for housing many residents.
