SureSet Permeable Paving were contracted for the resin bound aspect of this £25m project to put the pleasure back into Dreamland Theme Park, Margate; thought to be Britain’s oldest amusement park.
With the anticipated increase in footfall, the surfacing of new outdoor event and food court area needed to be durable. As well as hard-wearing it needed to look good and easy to maintain.
With our inclement British weather, the permeability of SureSet resin bound paving ensures the comfort of visitors by minimising the potential for puddles and ensuring there is no mud or loose stone.
The 1,830m² resin bound installation included the area around the Helter Skelter, pathways, the food court, new outdoor music venue and the roof of the toilet block to create a balcony.
This latest re-opening (June 2017) followed a brief, unsuccessful re-launch in 2015 after which Thanet District Council bought Dreamland with a compulsory purchase order.
Investment in the theme park has seen the addition of an exciting external event space accommodating 15,000 people, a new food court, an elevated walkway and new rides including Speedway, Austin Car Ride, Starflyer Tower and Barrel of Laughs Rotor; all representing different periods from Dreamland's history.
The intention of new owners to lure crowds with first class music events got off to a fantastic start with Gorillaz headlining their opening event in June.
