To ensure effective drainage and flood management – and full compliance with local authority discharge requirements – a large-scale new-build industrial estate in London has been fitted with a stormwater attenuation system from water management specialist Graf UK.

The brand-new Crabtree Manorway North estate in Belvedere, South East London comprises three industrial units (including offices and a warehouse). When embarking on the project, contractors Readie Construction needed to find an efficient and cost-effective stormwater solution that would not only protect against flooding, but would meet strict run-off criteria set by the London Borough of Bexley.

The system also needed to withstand the weight of the heavy lorries operating on the premises daily.

Having worked together on previous projects, Readie Construction approached Graf UK for a versatile and sustainable solution.

To comply with run-off requirements and provide reliable flood prevention for the future, the Graf UK team specified, designed and installed a tailor-made 900 m3 EcoBloc Inspect Flex system – built from around 4,500 heavy-duty blocs.

The system is surrounded by a geomembrane for effective attenuation purposes. This provides ultimate control of water back into natural groundwater reserves, and ensures the flow rate set by the borough is met.

The tanks have also been specified with in-built inspection channels, providing easy access for Graf UK’s advanced camera technology, which is used to regularly check for any silt or gravel build-up – ensuring optimum performance for the lifetime of the system.
