Global modular flooring specialist, Interface, has helped workplace interior design and architecture company, c2:concepts, bring its brand to life in a creative refurbishment of its office in Glasgow, Scotland.
“We have over 30 years’ experience in the design of corporate office interiors for well-known businesses worldwide . Therefore, for the refurbishment, we had a very clear strategy in terms of the size and type of space that we required for our new Glasgow location, including creating a design that unified our studio, café and lounge area with our clear style and branding,” commented c2:’s Managing Director, Mark Alcorn.
With this in mind, Interface worked closely with c2: to help develop a flooring scheme that would complement the clean, minimalist design of the office interior. The design scheme also incorporated a bold focal point to distinguish the c2: lounge from the rest of the office as a space for meetings and collective brainstorming.
“As an organisation, we work with a wide range of businesses every day, creating unique interior design concepts for their workspaces, that reflect their corporate identities,” explained Jean Camplisson, Design Director at c2:. “When refurbishing our own office, we wanted to do for our workspace exactly what we do for clients every day. This meant devising a fresh interior that not only offered flexibility for our team members, but also aligned perfectly with our own brand.”
The Equal Measure Skinny Plank carpet tile collection was used to design the main work area. The three styles within the collection, which feature matching shades, gave c2: plenty of scope to create distinctive flooring patterns in the same colour. The varying, but complimentary designs distinguished the main office from the breakout space, as well as the hard flooring of the kitchen and meeting rooms.
Thick linear stripes of charcoal grey tiles from Equal Measure 553 were fitted in an ashlar pattern on either side of the work area. This collection features a distinctive irregular texture reminiscent of a traditional cobbled street, providing a striking counterpoint to the sharp lines of the furniture and the walls. A line of finely-patterned tiles in the same colour from the Equal Measure 551 were fitted in the centre of the room, mirroring the rank of desks positioned directly above it. Equal Measure 552 in an identical shade was then used to blend the two distinctive sections together.
c2: wanted to create a strong flooring feature in the centre of the lounge to complement and delineate it as an informal area for team members to be creative as well as a cool area to chat with visitors. Skinny Plank carpet tiles from Interface’s Human Nature 810, 830 and 850 collections, which mimic the pebbled effect of cobbled paths, were laid in the middle of the room in a bold zigzag pattern. The grey shades of colourways were alternated with bright accent stripes, reflecting the vibrant yellow of the c2: brand logo.
“The lounge is where we brainstorm ideas with clients, so the space needed to be inspiring,” commented Jean. “The colours and textures of the new flooring scheme are ideal for this.”
c2: has now moved into its freshly renovated office and the c2: team and their visitors have all been impressed with the new look to their interior within the period building at Queen’s House in St Vincent Place, Glasgow.
Jean concluded: “The use of modular flooring in our own office space has been a fantastic way for us to convey the creativity we offer our clients. It presents designers with so much freedom to find the right colours and install the right designs to represent a company’s brand image.”
“With the new design scheme, we’re able to showcase to our own clients what we aim to achieve in their workspaces. More than this though, it has helped us make our office a place that our team members enjoy coming to every morning.”
