Barr Construction has reached a key milestone with the completion of the steel frame at a major cinema and hotel development in Darlington.
The milestone was marked with a topping out ceremony, attended by developers Terrace Hill, now part of Urban&Civic Plc, and Darlington Borough Council.
Main contractor Barr was appointed by Terrace Hill to deliver the £30m Feethams Leisure development which will include a nine screen Vue cinema, an 80-bed Premier Inn hotel and a number of high-profile restaurants. The leisure scheme will also comprise an undercroft car park and outdoor terraces.
Jim Harkness, project manager at Barr Construction, said: ““We have reached an important milestone in delivering this high quality leisure facility which will no doubt become a central community hub for the people of Darlington.
“Now that the building has its steel frame completed, people can get a sense of how the leisure development is taking shape as we progress to completion.”
Simon Hawkins, development director at Terrace Hill, said: “You can really start to see the scale and ambition of this project.
“Terrace Hill and the wider Urban&Civic group have a strong track record of transforming commercial sites and bringing forward high quality leisure developments through good design, a local supply chain and attracting big names.
“We are proud to be delivering Feethams Darlington with an exceptional local workforce and are on target for people to be watching movies, meeting friends and enjoying great food on this very spot next spring.”
Barr has been on site since September last year and the project is expected to be complete in early 2016.
