Prater and Lindner Facades, both part of the Lindner Group, have supplied structural waterproofing and a green roof solution, as well as the stunning unitised curtain wall, for 62 Buckingham Gate - a new 11 storey landmark mixed-use development in the heart of London’s Victoria, due for completion in spring 2013.
62 Buckingham Gate represents a giant leap forward in the regeneration of the Victoria area in London, and it is the first significant development in the area for 5 years. The existing outdated building on Victoria Street has been replaced with a 13-storey prism-like structure conceived by architects Pelli Clarke Pelli and with architectural details developed by Swanke Hayden & Connell.
The result includes 252,400 square feet of prime office space, with high-profile retail units at ground level. A canopied pedestrian area will connect the structure with Westminster City Hall, providing space for pavement cafés and outdoor public seating alongside a green wall.
Prater was selected to supply the structural waterproofing and green roof finishes for the project, including granite paving, bio diverse and sedum roofing. Prater’s sister company Lindner Facades Ltd is provided the bespoke unitised curtain wall system, which is the key feature of the building.
This involves rhomboidal bronze anodized elements in 11 ‘facets’ of variously inward inclined, outward inclined and vertical areas of cladding. The differently inclined facets are connected along feature junctions called ‘fold lines’. The façade to levels 11 and 12 is supported by inclined steel wind posts up to 8.0m high.
Externally, the building incorporates 800m2 of bolted glass canopy using multi-colored artist-designed screen-printed glass panels, stainless steel ‘spider’ glass retaining brackets supported on 250 x 50mm steel rafters & columns.
Keith Giles, Associate Director for Prater commented: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work alongside our sister company Lindner Facades on the Buckingham Gate project, which, when complete, will help to transform the Victoria area in London.
“Furthermore, in a struggling financial market, it is to our testament that with the support of Lindner Facades Prater has been able to safely complete its own scope of works on time and on budget. This project has been a great example of how both our companies work together effectively.”
