ISG has been awarded a fast-track £2 million design and build project by developer, The Homes Partnership, to create 59 bed spaces in ‘twodios’ for Bristol University students.

The new, three-storey accommodation block will form the second phase of The Homes Partnership’s ‘King Square Studios’ scheme in Bristol city centre, close to Bristol University.

The project will mark the roll out of the developer’s pioneering ‘twodio’ student living concept, whereby each pair of en-suite study bedrooms adjoins a shared kitchen, creating a ‘twodio’ unit.

The 35-week construction programme sees ISG erect a timber frame building on the former car park site, which will feature cladding and render elements to its façade.

The challenging programme will see ISG hand the building over in time for summer school rentals over the main holiday period. To answer the fast track requirements of the programme and ensure consistent levels of quality, the design incorporates pre-fabricated bathroom pods, which will be delivered to site via a ‘just in time’ methodology and craned into position.

ISG’s John Rawlinson, managing director – South West, commented: “ISG has a proven track record of delivering high quality student accommodation schemes across accelerated programmes, recently completing University schemes at Bristol and Bath.

“Our expertise working with modern methods of construction will prove invaluable in this latest development, which includes several off-site elements, and we are delighted to be working on the pioneering ‘twodio’ concept with such an enlightened client.”
