Fire resistant glass can now be used in the protection of people and property as attack resistant glazing, with SCHOTT’s high performing secure range. The specialist products also suitably fulfill the additional requirements of protection against impact, burglary and bullet penetration.

The secure range features unique compact, multifunctional laminates, specially developed for the maximum safety and protection of people and property. The enhancement combines first-class optical quality with outstanding safety properties, all resulting in a supremely high performing glass, with invisible protection.

As part of the research and development, the secure range, which includes PYRANOVA® secure and NOVOLAY® secure, has been thoroughly pre-tested in-house for impact and manual attack in accordance to EN 356, as well as EN 1063 for bullet resistance; all official testing is carried out by independent third party approved laboratories.

PYRANOVA is already a proven fire-resistant glass, providing effective protection against the passage of fire, hot gases and smoke, as well as heat radiation for up to two hours. PYRANOVA secure takes things one step further in combining fire protection with the ultimate resistance, offering maximum protection and meeting the highest safety demands.

Meanwhile, the outstanding strengths of NOVOLAY secure lie in its excellent optical quality and exceptional light weight. When used in enhanced glass composites, it readily fulfills stringent safety standards in a wide variety of applications. NOVOLAY secure utilizes a special float glass manufactured from a microfloat process. In addition to its excellent homogeneity, it displays impressive optical quality – even surpassing white glass.

Martin Brown, UK Product Manager, comments: “Having achieved the maximum fire resistance classes when it comes to fire protection, SCHOTT is also setting the standards in the protection of people and property.

“Certain public areas are more vulnerable to attack such as prisons, embassies, banks and jewellery stores, and therefore require glass to satisfy a number of stringent demands. SCHOTT’s development and testing procedures ensure high quality, performing products - giving confidence to our customers of long-lasting reliability and durability.”
