LDG Group Ltd, one of the North West’s largest window companies, has completed the installation of aluminium widows and door systems to the new Youth Hub Centre, part of the iconic £9m Southpoint Centre building in Blackpool. LDG won this prestigious contract working as a sub-contractor for Conlon Construction, one of the leading construction companies on the Fylde Coast.

Young people from Blackpool were involved in the design of the innovative and creatively striking Blackpool Youth Hub Centre in Southpoint, which will provide great opportunities for young people aged 13 to 19 who live in Blackpool and will be a place to go and explore leisure and educational activities in an area with few other opportunities for young people. The new centre, developed on an existing campus with a children's centre, primary school, sports college, leisure centre and library, used modern construction methods including transparent cladding, to open up the building to the community. It also includes a community kitchen, café, ICT suite and a gymnasium.

LDG Contracts was chosen by Conlon Construction following the completion of many similar high profile architectural glazing contracts. LDG Contracts manufactured and installed a total of 52 aluminium Technal FXI windows, four commercial doors and two sets of bi-folding doors, in addition to the main centre piece of the elevated curtain wall pod consisting of two feature windows using MX Visible Grid framing. LDG Contracts also installed three large sets of MX/SSG curtain walling to form the main reception area.

Open seven days a week, the centre will offer circus skills, arts classes, music tuition, sports coaching, DJ training, bike maintenance and advice services to help young people get back into education or employment, as well as other services.

Les Birtwistle, Contracts Manager LDG Contracts, said: “This is one of the most striking commercial buildings along with The Solarius and The Enterprise Centre, which LDG Contracts have also completed in recent years. We have provided door and window systems too and it is definitely one of the most prestigious buildings our team has worked on. From start to finish the project was a real challenge, but which we rose to and are proud to be recognised for, throughout the North West.”

The LDG group has been established for over 30 years and has built up an impressive portfolio specialising in the retail market, whilst LDG Contracts focuses on the commercial market. The portfolio has grown further and now includes its own glass manufacturing plant in Lancaster called CCG Glass and its own Solar Division in Preston called LDG Solar, all under the same banner making up the LDG Group Ltd.

The group are market leaders in the design, fabrication and installation of aluminium and PVCu products including curtain walling, window systems, entrance systems, shop fronts, patent glazing and solar panels. LDG now employs more than 200 staff and has its own 60,000 sq ft manufacturing facility on one site in Preston alongside the company’s head office.
