The UK’s rail franchise companies always strive to ensure the travelling public do not suffer undue delays as a result of any work on the network - an ethos reflected during a demanding refurbishment project carried out within one of the Midland’s busiest stations where Pendock the specialist encasement manufacturer was the chosen supplier for high quality panels and partitions; all produced in the client’s corporate colours.
In fact Pendock and the main contractor made every effort to ensure commuters weren’t “inconvenienced” while the public toilets at Wolverhampton station were being refitted prior to Christmas, with everyone involved working to a tight programme and delivery times.
The project focussed on the existing male and female facilities located alongside Platform 1 at Wolverhampton Station, which is operated by Virgin Trains and just as for the company’s sleek, torpedo shaped carriages, Pendock Washrooms was required to supply all of the toilet cubicles, privacy panels, doors and laminate faced vanity units in Virgin Train’s familiar livery of Pearl White and Dusty Jade Graphix.
The full height aluminium floor to ceiling posts for the three Ladies and two Gentlemen’s cubicles were meanwhile finished in a titanium coloured polyester powder coat (PPC). Ease of cleaning and durability of the finishes are imperative in such high usage situations and Pendock’s Ultimate Range of cubicles were chosen which not only offer extremely robust surfaces, but are fabricated with integral safety hinges mounted to the pilasters to give additional safety and security.
They are also strong enough to provide sturdy mountings for toilet roll holders, clothes hooks and other fittings. Additional braces were also supplied to facilitate hanging of the urinal bowls, while Pendock produced shadow gaps sections in 2500 mm lengths for cutting on site. Ross Miller, who supervised the work for the specialist fit-out contractor, Marshdale Construction, commented on how impressed he was with Pendock’s level of customer service as well as the high quality and dimensional accuracy of the various units the manufacturer supplied for the project.
Along with the associated plumbing, lighting, tiling and other works, installation of the Pendock Washrooms products was successfully completed to schedule, with the minimum disruption to the rail staff and public at Wolverhampton.
