The safety and security of Origin Housing’s residents has been significantly enhanced with the installation of Delta Security’s Model 9 Steel Doors into social housing properties across London.

Origin Housing is a provider of affordable housing and care and support services in London and Hertfordshire. It owns and manages over 5,500 homes, has a turnover of £37 million and aims to provide great homes and build strong communities in the area.

The existing timber doors, located in property entrances, stairs and communal landing areas were, in some instances, not robust enough to withstand vandalism and anti-social behaviour which led to locks being damaged and the safety and security of residents being put at risk. Delta Security was appointed to replace the doors and locking mechanisms with a product that would provide greater security. The upgrades also incorporate fireman switches, which are used in the event of a fire by firemen, to gain access and turn off hazardous electrical equipment.

“On receiving reports from our Neighbourhood Managers that locks and the timber doors had been damaged by anti-social behaviour it was our responsibility to look for a solution that would help improve security for Origin Housing’s properties, the residents and their belongings,” says Frank O’Gallagher, Project Surveyor at Origin Housing.

Delta Security recommended the Delta Model 9 Steel Door because the steel frame, the secure, tamper-proof twin maglocks and auto closing mechanism provides a robust, secure and user-friendly product ideally suited to housing association properties with multiple occupancy.

Also included with the Delta Model 9 door installation is the replacement of existing frames with a secure steel frame, fob system, new stainless steel digital door entry, exit buttons and, fitted as standard, 11.5mm anti-bandit laminated clear glass.

Designs of the Delta Model 9 Steel door can be tailored to the type and age of the building into which they are to be installed, assisting councils and housing associations in modernising security, whilst at the same time maintaining the characters of the buildings in their care.

The doors have already been installed in 10 sites and further sites will be added over the coming year. “The installations have gone very well,” says Frank. “Delta was chosen because its products help increase security at the right cost. The doors are well manufactured and fully compliant with the necessary fire and safety regulations, and because of their design our maintenance costs have also been reduced.”

Dave Mundy, Operations Manager at Delta Security adds: “As specialists in social housing, we have designed the product to help reduce anti-social behaviour by providing a robust frame that can withstand attempted vandalism and ensure that residents are more confident of their safety.”
