Andersen windows and doors, from Black Millwork, have helped to provide an abundance of natural daylight to a newly built, traditionally styled bungalow in Southampton.

Maximising the amount of natural light that floods into a building can greatly contribute to the look and feel of a property, as well as being an effective way of creating a sense of space.

Therefore, with help from Mike Robinson at Hedge End Builders, bungalow owners Mike and Janette Paget specified Andersen’s 400 Series Woodwright and Flexiframe windows, as well as Frenchwood doors, to bathe their new home with light.

“We wanted fenestration and doors that would complement the traditional, timber clad exterior of the bungalow and could create the bright and airy effect we required,” comments Mike Robinson. “The Andersen products from Black Millwork were perfect for this project, thanks to their classic designs and large glazing panels.”

According to studies, increased exposure to daylight can improve a person’s wellbeing, indeed category seven of the Code for Sustainable Homes aims to improve the quality of life at home through good day-lighting.

In this instance, Andersen’s 400 series Woodwright double hung windows in white, with colonial grilles to the top, were specified for the ground level of the bungalow.   Andersen’s 400 Series Flexiframe Polygon Speciality windows were installed at roof level. Like all Andersen windows, both of these products are manufactured using Low E-4 self-cleaning glass, which reduces water spots and requires little on going maintenance.

Mike continues: “Space restrictions meant we were unable to use the 400 Series Woodwright windows on the roof level as it had a very steep slope. However, the versatile Andersen 400 series Flexiframe windows were ideal. We installed two triangular shapes side by side - producing a half diamond effect – and this fitted neatly within the contours of the roof, which helped to bring a contemporary feel to the traditional aesthetics.”

Two sets of Andersen’s 400 Series Frenchwood outswing patio doors were also specified for the bungalow, opening onto a covered veranda. All Andersen windows and doors feature an innovative Perma-shield system, which protects the exterior of the windows and doors for decades, eliminating the need to paint - resulting in financial savings.

Mike Paget concludes: “We wanted a classic looking bungalow and Black Millwork’s Andersen windows and doors fitted our brief perfectly. What’s more the Frenchwood outswing patio doors have been an excellent purchase – they flood the main part of the house with a lot of light, and adds to the spacious feeling overall.”
