Situated across the street from Green Park, The Athenaeum Hotel has a rich history and was originally refurbished and opened for business by the Rank Organisation in the early seventies.

During the 1970s and 80s, it was reported that more Hollywood movie stars could be seen in The London Athenaeum, than in the Polo Lounge of The Beverley Hills Hotel. Independent, award-winning and one of a kind, The Athenaeum is now privately owned and has recently undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment under the auspices of Kinnersley Kent Design.

Taking inspiration from the glamour and prestige of the hotel’s Hollywood past, Kinnersley Kent Design have created an “authentic deco” aesthetic, referencing the modernist style of the original 1930s building with a stunning new bronze facade, and establishing a modern Art Deco interior throughout.

The new brand ethos “stay individual” is brought to life in all aspects of the design, with an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary British and European furniture used across the impressive lobby, 134 en-suite bedrooms and 12 luxurious suites.

As part of the recent refurbishment, the lobby area has been opened up and features a rich, indulgent palette that highlights the importance of natural light and achieves an effortlessly authentic, Art Deco ambience.

Introducing an element of contrast, Kinnersley Kent Design opted for solid oak herringbone flooring from Havwoods in a decadently dark finish that unites The Athenaeum’s lobby, social spaces and acclaimed restaurant with a cohesive design vision and statement aesthetic.
