ASSA ABLOY UK Specification, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions, has provided security solutions to major stadiums on the now iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The ASSA ABLOY UK Specification team, which is dedicated to working with architects and design-led contractors, successfully met the criteria to supply the prestigious project with solutions to stand the test of time. Using the opportunity of the games to develop a dynamic heart for the east London community, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) had a long-term plan in mind for the buildings, so durability of products was a key factor.
With a project of such scale and importance, the ASSA ABLOY UK Specification team worked closely with the ODA management at every stage and supplied security and access specifications to over six projects throughout the development. The high level of involvement they had was vital in ensuring the products were ergonomically fit for purpose, while being aesthetically impressive. Products included access control solutions and electric locks in the main stadium, steel doorsets in the velodrome and multi-point locking in the athletes’ village.
David Wigglesworth, Managing Director of ASSA ABLOY UK Specification, said: “All eyes were on the Park, so we felt a great responsibility to provide impressive solutions that complemented the buildings’ aesthetics, whilst ensuring the safe, manageable and efficient flow of high levels of traffic throughout the facility. With six different projects within the development with various functional requirements, it was a challenge, but our large product portfolio, together with our extensive experience in supplying doorset and access control solutions to sporting arenas, was a huge benefit to its success.
“It was an honour to have contributed to the development of what is now one of the most iconic sports venues in the UK, and it is great to see the legacy continue to help the local economy and community.”
