Setcrete Deep Base floor levelling compound has been used to provide a lasting, level surface for changing rooms and exercise areas at the first Mega Gym complex in Dudley, in the West Midlands.
The smoothing compound, part of Setcrete’s range of high performance flooring products for the professional builder, was used to smooth and repair the 1100m2 floor in the converted car showroom.
Following the removal of an old ceramic floorcovering, Hanson Building Contractors Ltd., discovered the floor was full of potholes and indentations, and in need of levelling, repairing and re-surfacing. When cleaned and prepared, an epoxy resin waterproof surface membrane was installed over the concrete base. This provided an efficient and effective means of suppressing moisture.
In any flooring installation, subfloor moisture should always be measured and, where necessary, should be treated with an appropriate moisture management system, as stipulated by British Standards.
Due to the poor state of the existing subfloor surface, Setcrete’s high performance Deep Base levelling compound was applied at thicknesses of between 5 – 10mm to provide a smooth and level base ready to receive the chosen floorcoverings.
Utilising the latest cement technology, Setcrete Deep Base provides builders with a high-strength compound and achieves a stronger and more durable base than traditional sand/cement screeds. With excellent self-levelling and fast-setting properties, Setcrete Deep Base can raise a subfloor by 5-50mm in one application and is suitable for use over a wide range of subfloor types including sand/cement screeds, concrete and ceramic and quarry tiles.
Furthermore, the product requires minimal working with a trowel, has a walk-on time from just 90 minutes and is ready to receive a new floorcovering from 6 hours meaning that a flooring installation can be completed within the same day.
Colin Hanson, Managing Director at Hanson Building Contractors, commented: “Setcrete Deep Base was the ideal, heavy duty product to use in this unique flooring installation. Its self-levelling and easy to use formula meant that we could install a smooth, safe subfloor with minimal working, and continue with the renovation project after only a few hours.”
