Roca's water saving bathroom essentials have helped The Emerald become the UK's first zero carbon holiday accommodation, mixing five star luxury with exceptional green credentials.
Certified to level six of the Code for Sustainable Homes, The Emerald consists of five beautifully designed suites, set in the picturesque Cornish countryside.
The bathrooms form an integral part of The Emerald's eco-luxury specification, with Roca's products perfectly fitting with the projects brief. The Gap and Meridian-N WCs flush just 4.5/3 litres compared with standard dual flush at 6/4, whilst Touch basin mixers include an Eco-Disc cartridge that provides resistance at 50% of water flow capacity, encouraging end users to stop before they turn the tap on full.
Quality and indulgence is represented by Roca's freestanding Georgia bathtub with views of the stars and ‘his and hers' Stratum vanity basins and units. Toilet flushing comes courtesy of recycled grey water and a borehole provides the rest of The Emerald's aquatic needs.
"We wanted to show that you can be environmentally friendly and still have the finest quality of everything - that was always our dream", said The Emerald's owner, Tim Kemp.
To help the Kemps achieve their dream, they employed Roca for more than just its products. Sharon Young, specification manager for Roca, explains, "The requirements were challenging, to say the least. But being involved from the design stage enabled us to understand the big picture and put forward product solutions that not only met the environmental targets, but helped to create stunning bathrooms."
Other eco credentials include exceptional levels of insulation, waste is recycled and landscaping includes the planting of large numbers of native trees. The net result is an estimated 90% reduction in energy consumption, compared with similar properties.
Intelligent design also means The Emerald complies with the Lifetime Homes Standard. Accessibility design features, such as wider doors and level access showers, add comfort and convenience, allowing the properties to better accommodate the varying needs of their guests.
