Pipe Center, the UK’s leading heating and pipework supplier, has delivered an innovative supply solution for a major M&E project at Center Parcs’ new Village at Woburn Forest
The multi-million pound contract, awarded to Derry Building Services by main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland, involved installation of M&E services for the Village’s pool and spa, leisure area, restaurant and hotel.
Derry Building Services designed and installed more than a dozen plant rooms, including roof-top and internally sited facilities, linked to a complex-wide district heating system via high efficiency Plate Heat Exchangers (PHEs).
Pipe Center supplied Georg Fischer Instaflex plastic pipe, fittings and related components which had been prefabricated at Georg Fischer’s facility in Coventry. Due to restrictions on storage space onsite and timed delivery schedules, Pipe Center set up a secure offsite storage facility for components and materials at its nearby Marston Gate distribution centre.
Located just four miles from Woburn Forest, it enabled Derry Building Services to access unforeseen items around the clock as needed, with Pipe Center replacing products as they were used, ensuring immediate availability.
Stocks in the offsite storage unit were replenished by Pipe Center’s Nottingham branch, as part of its ongoing support for long-term customer Derry Building Services.
Brian Hughes, Senior Projects Manager at Derry Building Services, said: “The project had a strict time-table for completion and had to be carefully managed. It was vital to have the correct products and materials available at each stage of the installation.
“The solution we negotiated with Pipe Center gave us a secure offsite storage solution that was constantly restocked, and provided the assurance that products and materials were to hand as work progressed. We worked closely with Pipe Center practically on a daily basis to iron out any logistical issues.”
He added: “It was a creative and practical solution and helped us deliver an outstanding and timely result for the client.”
Center Parcs Woburn Forest, which opened in June to short break guests, is the company’s fifth Village. It features a sub-tropical swimming pool, 625 luxury forest lodges, a 75-bedroom hotel, bespoke Aquasana, restaurants and retail facilities. Its main event space can accommodate 680 people for a gala dinner.
Following completion of the project, Pipe Center’s successful supply partnership with Derry Building Services continues to develop with a number of projects across the UK, including installations at a university and an internationally renowned film studio.
