Barnsley Metrodome Leisure Complex is delighted to have been shortlisted in this year’s prestigious National Fitness Awards 2012.

Fighting off stiff competition from hundreds of nominations nationwide, Barnsley Metrodome Leisure Complex is one of six finalists in the Local Authority/Leisure Trust Gym Category.

Tim Wilson, BPL Chief Executive for BPL said: “It’s brilliant to have been shortlisted against so many other quality gyms.  Since taking over the Metrodome in 1999 we have worked hard to improve health and fitness in our community. As a finalist in this category it shows our hard work, innovation and determination has paid off– we are delighted with this result.”

The award submission highlights to the judging panel how BPL have increased membership from 400 to 4,200 members, implemented a children’s gym which has over 400 members, launched a successful GP referral scheme which has seen 894 patients and more than 70% of which converted to a gym membership, improve retention by 27%, increase attrition by 5% and develop a successful working partnership with Pulse Fitness by installing more than 140 stations of their fitness equipment.  This includes their comprehensive gym management software SmartCentre which helps you monitor member’s progress.

“The Metrodome is not our only site which has improved; we have achieved a 646% total membership growth across all our sites. We believe this has been achieved with the continued help and business support from Pulse Fitness, their expertise and equipment has enabled us to implement effective and efficient sales, marketing and retention strategies.” commented Tim Wilson, BPL Chief Executive.

Judges will now visit all of the shortlisted leisure centres and the winner will be announced at a glitzy awards ceremony on Friday, November 30 at The Athena in Leicester.
