A local authority in southern England has installed custom manufactured colour matched hanging baskets and floral containers to decorate the area’s sailing venue as part of Britain’s summer of sport.

The displays were planted by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) in readiness for the summer’s range of international sailing events.

The council purchased over 100 specially manufactured planters from horticultural supplier Amberol in time for the summer. The planters were manufactured in a specific colour to match the shade of blue used by the club.

The WPNSA is a not for profit organisation, based between Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay. The site has some of the UK’s best sailing facilities and was chosen to host many of the summer’s major international sailing events.

“July and August was particularly busy for the WPNSA and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council wanted to make sure that the site was ready to greet both international and domestic visitors,” comments Jacqui Gisborne, Marketing Manager of Weymouth and Portland 2012 Operations Team. “We purchased a selection of special self watering planters from Amberol, including hanging baskets, window boxes and a large planter which made an impressive centre piece to the site.”

A family run company based in Derbyshire, Amberol specialise in sustainable gardening products as well as recycled garden furniture and talking litter bins.

Marketing Manager John Williamson commented: “It’s great to see councils and local authorities showcasing the best of British and the world class sporting facilities that we have such as the National Sailing Academy.”
