Roof coatings from diversified technology company 3M’s Infrastructure Protection Division have been instrumental in the completion of a prestigious project at Silverstone, home of the British Formula 1 Grand Prix.

As part of an ambitious £27m pit and paddock development, known as ‘The Wing’, the Scotchkote Liquid Roofing System from 3M was selected for its seamless finish and optimum protection. The new building’s roof was a complex challenge, covering 9,700m² of both flat and angled sections, and the client required a seamless covering to flow with the overall aesthetic of the new build.

“The 3M system was chosen as we believe the company is a leader in its particular area of the roofing materials market,” explained Jon Hawkings, project manager for Silverstone Circuits Ltd. “We considered single-ply membrane and standing seam roofing, but these would need to be cut and installed in several pieces then sealed, risking leakages.  Scotchkote liquid roofing offered the seamless look and finish we required and the application progressed very smoothly.”

John Golding, key account manager – building refurbishment for 3M’s Infrastructure Protection Division, added: “The versatility of the 3M system made it ideal when dealing with the various flat and sloped surfaces of the roof, and the chamfers between them. We were delighted to be part of such a high-profile project at a British institution like Silverstone.”

The Scotchkote liquid roofing system is a high performance waterproofing system for the protection of flat or pitched roof surfaces. It can be applied simply with a brush or roller, and dries within a matter of hours.
