UK Specification, a division of ASSA ABLOY UK, has been highly praised for its collaborative approach and attention to detail by leading management at the new Birmingham Dental Hospital & School of Dentistry.

The development stands as the UK’s first integrated dental hospital and school for nearly 40 years. It is seen as highly strategic for the city, being a key element of the new Edgbaston Medical Quarter and further enhances the city’s reputation as a hub for Medicine, Learning and Life Sciences.

Following a day spent with the UK Specification team at its state of the art academy facilities, Associate Director Kath Jakeman, sent a personal card of thanks to David Wigglesworth, Managing Director of UK Specification.

Says Kath: “From the moment we arrived, we were made welcome – starting with the staff in the gatehouse and car parking – all helpful and friendly. The Specification team led a well-planned, informative day. Knowing the complexity of a new build, I am reassured by your expertise.”

The new landmark facility will house a range of services for the public including emergency dental care, restorative, oral surgery, oral medicine, orthodontics and paediatric dentistry delivered by Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust and the University of Birmingham School of Dentistry.

The public will access all dental services in one wing of the building with a second wing providing world-class research facilities and, production laboratory and a modern learning environment for more than 600 undergraduate and postgraduate students and trainees.

UK Specification has been involved from the initial design concepts to schedule over 500 timber door sets and architectural ironmongery for the prestigious project. Specification also included Laminate faced doors with painted frames, complemented with Scanflex door furniture that offers the simple lines and functionality of classic Scandinavian design.

David Wigglesworth, Managing Director of UK Specification, a division of ASSA ABLOY UK added: “To win such a prestigious project as one of the first for UK Specification really showcases our ability and expertise in the specification process, with the backing of the global leader in door opening solutions.

“To receive such high praise from the management team, in such a personal way, is a great achievement and the whole team should be proud. It’s a great precedent to illustrate our commitment to working closely with building contractors and end users, ensuring total security solutions fit with a building’s strong visual identity.”
