The latest in a string of university contract wins, SoVibrant, one of the UK’s leading independent strategic creative consultancies, has secured a contract to redesign the exciting new food hall at University of Birmingham’s Medical School.

SoVibrant has created designs for the basement food court, which covers an area of 9,500 sq ft and seats approximately 360 people at any one time. By understanding how people, processes, technology and spaces integrate and interact, now and in the future, So Vibrant’s bespoke solution manages how people flow through the space.

The proposed designs feature a light and airy environment that introduces a palette of vibrant colours. Its quality of fit-out will rival high street coffee and food outlets and the food offering has been expanded to host live cooking stations in the hot food area.

SoVibrant’s Head of Interiors, Stephen Murray, commented on the contract win, he said:
“This latest contract win cements further SoVibrant’s growing reputation in the university sector – we are designing for an exciting space. During a typical day, there are around 1,400 to 1,500 students and staff on campus passing through the facility and the university wants it to be a place people enjoy.”

SoVibrant was commissioned following flood damage from a burst water main in the summer and proposals to refurbish the space were accelerated by the university. The work, which has now started on site by main contractor Murray and Willis, is due for completion in January 2017.

The University of Birmingham Medical School is one of Britain's oldest medical schools with over 400 medics, 70 Pharmacists, 90 Biomedical Science Students and 100 Nurses graduating each year. The project is located within the basement of the Wolfson building, beneath the Leonard Deacon Theatre.
